Deutsche Bank Private Bank is building an AI academy for 20,000 staff

Private banking still runs on judgement. Clients do not pay for a faster summary of a market note. They pay for someone who can weigh what the note means for their situation and say so with conviction. That is the gap Deutsche Bank's Private Bank is trying to close with its new PB AI Academy.
The academy offers structured, role-based learning tailored to each employee's responsibilities and level of AI experience. It mixes self-paced modules with instructor-led sessions, workshops and communities. Training starts with foundational skills such as prompting and the responsible and ethical use of AI, and runs through to AI agents and Agentic AI. Each path includes around five to ten recommended trainings, so people get a clear starting point rather than an open catalogue.
Yiping Li, Chief Operating Officer of the Private Bank, put the stake clearly: "AI is making information more accessible than ever. What will increasingly set us apart is how we use it: applying judgement, expertise and a deep understanding of our clients." The academy is already available to around 3,500 employees across the Private Bank's international locations. Over the coming months it is set to expand to more than 20,000 Private Bank employees. In Germany it is expected in the first half of 2027, after consultation with employee representatives.
Scale is the easy part to announce. The hard part is whether the learning sticks to the work advisers already do with clients. An academy that stops at awareness will produce completions. An academy that puts people onto a live client workflow, with coaching and a place to share what worked, will produce different behaviour. That is the design logic behind our AI Training programs, which start from the work people already own.
The open question for any bank running something this size is follow through. Role-based paths and ethical modules are necessary. They are not enough on their own. The test will be whether Private Bank teams can show, months from now, that judgement and client understanding got sharper because of the tools, not thinner.
