YCH will reskill more than 4,000 people and redesign 600 roles for AI

YCH Group is joining Enterprise Singapore's Champions of AI program, and the workforce numbers are the interesting part. The logistics group aims to reskill 1,200 employees in Singapore and more than 3,000 across the region, while redesigning more than 600 operational roles.
That second number matters more than the first. Reskilling counts are easy to announce. Redesigned roles are harder, because someone has to decide what the job now is, what it no longer does and how it gets measured. YCH says it is moving beyond baseline AI literacy toward new ways of working, and gives one concrete example: mid-level roles shift toward data analysis, scenario planning and strategic operations.
The group is not starting cold. It already runs proprietary supply chain systems, control tower dashboards and an automated high-bay warehouse. At its Vietnam SuperPort it is piloting machine learning and computer vision for trade document authentication and cargo security screening. The plan is to take what works there and scale it across the network.
Executive Chairman Dr Robert Yap framed it plainly: the focus is not AI for its own sake, but how it is used responsibly to strengthen people, the business and the supply chains it supports.
Here is what I would want to know as a leader in that business. When a mid-level operations role becomes scenario planning, who teaches the judgement? Spreadsheet and dashboard skills are teachable in weeks. Knowing which scenario is worth planning for, and when to ignore the model, takes deliberate practice with real cases. That is where role redesign either sticks or quietly reverts to the old job with a new title.
If your teams are being asked to think more and process less, our Critical Thinking workshops are a good place to start.
